On Wednesday we visited London again. We went to Shakespeare's Globe theatre, a modern reconstruction from the 16th century. It was very interesting what the tour guide told us about the construction. For example the roof was built to protect the clothes from the water and the sun. The water would wash out and the sun would bleach the colour. They first thought about the clothes than they coloured the roof as decoration in an dark blue so they could start a play wich plays in the evening at the afternoon because people had a long way to the theatre and if the play would be in the evening the people had to go home in the middle of the night.
In the 16th century a ticket to get into the theatre had cost 1 penny but today one ticket costs 5 pounds. The audiences must stand in front of he stage (they can't sit) and even if it rains the play doesn't stop, so the audiences had to be prepared for bad/good weather because the roof is just over the stage. The theatre works without lights and sound effects, so if the play is in the evening or night they have just small lights to illuminate the stage. The acters also use no microphones so they have to speak very loud.
So I think it would be very interesting to go to one of the Shakespeare's plays in the Globe theatre so maybe after you read this you will go and find out more about shakespeare.
